Electrolysis: Prepare and Care

What is helpful to know before and after your care to have optimal results from your treaments.

Before Your Appointment

One Week Before

  • Keep the area protected from excessive sun exposure.

  • Do not tweeze, wax, thread or otherwise remove hair from the root.

  • Prioritize hydration.

2-3 Days Before

  • Drink extra water, consider drinking electrolytes.

  • Let the hair grow. Please leave enough growth for the hair to be easily grasped with tweezers, typically 2-3 days of growth.

  • Avoid irritating skincare on the treatment area. Pause retinoids, glycolic acid and other exfoliating or sensitizing products for approximately 24–72 hours before treatment.

  • Avoid scratching, rubbing or otherwise irritating the treatment area.

Day Of

Please arrive with clean, lightly moisturized skin.

We may need to reschedule if:

  • There is active irritation, infection, or broken skin

  • The area is heavily congested or inflamed

  • You are feeling unwell or have heightened skin sensitivity

  • Do not shave the area — hair needs to be present for treatment

Note: Taking prescription medication or using a product you’re unsure about?
Please reach out before your appointment. Do not discontinue prescribed medication unless directed by your healthcare provider.

After Your Treatment

First 24 Hours

  • Keep the area clean and hands off. Avoid touching, rubbing, scratching or picking at the treated skin.

  • Cool if needed. Apply a clean, wrapped ice pack or cool compress to help reduce temporary redness and swelling. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.A clean, cool compress can help soothe temporary redness or swelling.

  • Skip heat and heavy sweating. Avoid strenuous workouts, hot tubs, saunas and swimming.

  • Keep products simple. Avoid makeup, perfume, alcohol-based products, exfoliants and other potentially irritating products on the treated area.

  • Protect it from the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning.

Next 24–48 Hours

  • Continue gentle skincare. Cleanse gently and keep the area comfortably hydrated.

  • Avoid scrubs and exfoliation until the skin has completely settled.

  • Continue sun protection. Especially here at altitude, I would make this prominent rather than treating sun protection as an afterthought.

  • Let the skin heal naturally. If tiny crusts or scabs develop, do not pick or remove them.
